Will Write For Food: Supplemental Income Content Writing
Do you dream to work in your underwear but don’t possess the abs and buns of steel that any magazine would pay to snap pictures of? Lucky for you, your dream is not far fetched. Strip down and hang your modeling ambitions up and away. Become a writer!
In these particular times of economic concession, if not depression, more folks find themselves at home looking for more ways to supplement their existence. In effect, there are a lot more people on the Internet either looking for jobs or simply trying to kill the idle time on their hands, all with similar questions on their minds as they surf from page to page: What am I going to do to get through these hard times? How can I earn some extra cash? Is this or that money making scheme really legit? Should I…?
If not at first, eventually a suitable answer lands on the computer screen in front of them–in front of you. “Of course, I can write!” Paid content, article writing and blogging for websites has become the quickest growing ‘quick cash’ trend in recent months and years. As global trends dictate an increased ‘netizen’ population, the demand for newer and more unique content on various topics increases, likewise.
The mass popularity this pseudo-career-past-time has gained holds no social psychological mysteries. With basically the only requirement being Word Processing and Internet literacy, not having to brush one’s teeth, comb hair, wear underwear—or any underwear for that matter—before beginning ‘work’ has its universal appeal.
The most common question and/or suspicion for newcomers is in regards to the source of income. After all, most of the Internet is virtually free—how often are we asked for a credit card number before being granted access to read a blog or article on the Internet? Unless the subject matter is of a rarity, or unique specialty, aside from general electricity and telecommunication fees, most content on the web costs nothing to access—isn’t that the idea of an information society?
So how then, can agents afford to pay others to write stuff basically distributed to the world for free? The answer is advertising—that’s right, those little text and pictures linked ads that are placed throughout the page of the content. Not much different from ‘free’ television business, advertising is the backbone of and Internet content business.
Unlike the expensive fees charged by television entertainment agencies, cash flow for most of Internet advertising is on an exposure basis, mainly measured from page impressions (hits), or even more common ‘per click’ of the actual advert. Therefore, the money follows the traffic. Hence, agents trying to lure web traffic with new and unique content.
That said, any reasonable sized cash flow requires a large flux of internet traffic—inferring hits by the thousands and millions. Not only is quantity traffic considered, but also quality traffic. For example 10 hits from a wealthy first world country may often be more valuable to an advertiser than 100 hits from a third world country.
In conclusion, making money by writing content from home is not as easy as it may have seemed. It requires a lot of patience, and more importantly passion to continuously pump out words consistently and regularly—even on topics may have no interest for at all.
Chances are you probably already knew all this, and are simply seeking leads for a for a paid writing gig. If you made it this far, than your patience is about to pay off. The following web sites are great starting points. Happy Writing!

I used to work as a designer for the very same reason – working in my undies.
But everyone else wanted to work in their undies too.
So many people got in the working on your undies wagon, that now none of us can even AFFORD undies.
