Klaus’ Kolumn: The Tropics & Umbrellas
I was wondering. I Know it rains so much in South East Asia. Places like Thailand and all throughout the South pacific …lots of Monsoon rains
Is it really important to have a good umbrella?

I think that umbrellas are completely unnecessary, especially in Thailand where it rains for much of the year. If you find yourself in the rain you can simply use one of the following 2 comments as your “umbrella”,
1) If you never would have come to South East Asia in the first place- You wouldn’t be standing in the rain-Therefore it is clearly your own fault, absolutely nothing to do with umbrellas, rain, or anything.
2) Since you are now wet (like a rat) it can only be surmised that because we live in the best of worlds and Thailand is the best place in all these worlds, we can without the slightest doubt, deduct that all things in a perfect world are perfect. The rain and wind are then a completely perfect eventuality in a perfect world. And thank good it is perfect-otherwise the rain and many other things may cause us all great inconvenience.
I personally give a great sigh of relief for living in a perfect world.
P.S. My fondest regards to the French for creating a wonderful umbrella. Should I find myself in an imperfect world, I will immediately without sight or sense rush out and purchase one of those keen umbrellas straight away, even quicker than you can say La coup de foudre.
P.S.S. OH MY!!
It has come to my attention that many Westerners and even some Asians did not in fact have the pleasure of studying under Dr. Pangloss (as I did), during any part of their their formal education. In fact some of these poor retches have never even heard of the imaginatively brilliant Dr. Pangloss. For these people I would suggest you bring the required amount of umbrellas, (perhaps thousands of them) the next time you come to South East Asia (or anywhere for that matter). Thanks in advance.

It is like a joke that only you will know if you read story by [François-Marie Arouet (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778), better known by the pen name Voltaire,]
Even if you do to read story Candide or Optimism by Voltaire maybe still need to be explain by Professor of English Lieterature some meaning of the story.
