Arrest Warrant issued for Thaksin and wife!

Thailand’s Supreme Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of ousted premiere, Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife, Khun Ying (elite woman title) Pojaman for failing to answer the summons to return to Thailand and testify in the shady 772 million baht (about 23.3 million USD$) Rachadapisek land purchase, of which the former PM is accused of using his authority and influence as PM for his wife to acquire the land for ‘below-market’ value.

For more details on this news, see this Bangkok Post link. Or if that specific link turns up dead as often found with Bangkok post dynamic urls, just go to Bangkokpost.net and do a search.

Through their Thailand lawyer, who represented the exiled London based couple at the hearing, the expected no-show was sited because of security reasons, which with Thailand’s track record regarding politics, freedom, coups, and particularly a certain exiled-disposed Prime minister and monarch of the last century, Thaksin may easily find sympathy in the international community.

Never-the-less, the Supreme Court will proceed in pursuing extradition, though it is unclear how the situation will unfold. I don’t believe this will be a clear-cut case and am excited to see how the British Government will respond to Thailand’s government request…the moment of truth…or is it?

I think we all know how Britain will respond.

Yea, it’s pretty unlikely that Britain will cooperate in turning over the two to the currently technically illegal , yet supposedly temporary government of Thailand–bless the regime for trying anyway.

I think Thaksin is completely legit not returning to Thailand for reasons of safety, though think if he is to be charged, should be done in neutral territory, though it likely may never come to that even.

May he and his partner in crime at least do something laudable for the Thai nation with all their riches other then hire poor farmers to cause mayhem for reasons of revenge.

The whole issue of Thaksin is an interesting one. The fact that he ran to Britain to begin with seems to be a sign of his alliances. He is also likely to find out that betrayal is coming one day from his new benefactors.

I’m reminded of all those defectors during the Cold War. They expected they’d be taken care of by the West.. and, of course, were not.

Thaksin will be thrown to the wolves eventually.

As he should… he needs to be tried in Thailand.
