Ive received wonderful news recently. My sister confirmed that she had bought her families plane tickets to fly out here at the end of December. A much anticipated visit, it will be her and her family’s first time to Thailand, and the first time that I’ve had direct family from the states come to visit me (and the country) since moving here back in 2002. Though they will only be here 2 weeks, I am so excited and confident that their first trip will lead to many more to come in future years.
Their basic itinerary includes Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and meeting some Thai relatives for the first time including my (our) half brother and my aunts / uncle. I have yet to announce this confirmation to my Thai relatives, but I imagine only my brother and perhaps an aunt and uncle will make an effort to rendezvous at middle grounds as to fit into the family of my sisters tight schedule. Being that they are flying all the way from New Mexico, and have only limited time for the vacation to see and do so much, it is unfeasible for me to drag them to meet all the relatives in various locations, but I will do my best to arrange something middle ground that would be fair for everyone though it may turn out that she only ends up meeting our brother, though ideally she ought to have a chance to meet our aunts, uncle, and cousins.

Naturally this makes me curious.
How did your family react when you told them you were moving to Thailand? I’d love to read about your decision and how you came to it.
Peace,

Hi, here is my archive of writings for when I first moved to Thailand
As far as the decision, it was pretty much made up in my heart late July 2001 when I had just returned to the states from my first and only trip to Thailand during that summer. I couldn’t stop dreaming and thinking about Thailand, not to mention, I still had much unsolved family mysteries waiting for me in Thailand. I worked ever hard than and had a one way ticket purchased by October for the following February. I’m not sure what my American family thought–perhaps that I was going on a short trip to complete a blurred family chapter, and that I’d be back soon, of which I did return for a short 4 month spell in 2003 with a round trip ticket ending in Thailand, which only made me love Thailand even more.
Cheers
