Lopburi is one of Thailand's oldest cities. The city, which was center of the ancient Lavo kingdom, was initially believed to be Dvarawati city more than 2000 years ago. Before and during the glory of the Khmer kingdom 1000 years ago, Lavo became a key vassel state as it lies on an ancient Hindu trade route--- a catapult for Khmer influence into the Malay peninsular region, and a large source of manpower to build the khmer empire. .
