Bangkok Thailand

The modern megapolis of Bangkok is home to more than 10 million inhabitants. Actually, all locals / residents refer to the Thai capital as Krung Thep กรุงเทพๆ, which covers the massive urban sprawl on both sides of the Chao Phraya river. Bangkok is modern, developed, and booming with the latest technology, healthcare, and transportation as one would expect from a true modern international city. A majority of the city's elite (as is the case in general Southeast Asia) are of Thai-Chinese ethnicity. Bangkok's ever-growing mass-transit system includes a modern skytrain and subway, providing a convenient alternative to sitting (or standing) on a bus or taxi in the congested mazes of highways, roads, and sois (side street). Other public transport includes the Chao Phraya River express. This mode is definitely recommended for those planning on visiting Bangkok, or living here but have not yet tried it.

Bangkok use to hold the nickname 'Venice of the East', but this is far from the case today. Though many canals on the West flank of the Chao Phraya (Thonburi city)are still in use primarily as tourist attractions , there is only one surviving canal in use on the eastern flank of the Chao Phraya (Bangkok city). Saen Saeb canal is used by thousands of locals daily to commute in/out of central Bangkok. It is one of the quickest ways to commute in Bangkok. However, the lack of funding keeps the klong (canal) water smell almost unbearable, as it's also used as a sewer for the residential/commercial zones that line aside it.

Perhaps one of the most peculiar aspects that travelers might observe is the confusing layout and zoning. Unlike formerly colonized cities like Yangoon, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, there has never really been a master city plan for Bangkok's boom in the 20th century (at least not one consistently followed/enforced)
